Hey FiT vEgAnS!!!

Today's post and tag-along video are rather somber. But oh so very worth talking about.
I will start by posing the question; Why Love One, But Not the Other?

So, this morning while browsing Reddit {as one usually does with their spare time} I stumbled across THIS post.  This post is titled Dog Milk and I was immediately like, say whaaa??  So, I read it.  The post, of course, was sickening.  Obviously people would be outraged at this.  I mean, DOG MILK?  That's inhumane!  We LOVE dogs!

But then I read the last three lines:

• One's a dog and ones a cow
• Cows are a lot larger than dogs
• Dogs have paws and cows have hooves
• Grass for food vs grass for barfing
• Dogs can smell real good
• Cows moo.  Dogs can't do that.
• Dogs and humans evolved together over thousands of years to co-depend on each other
• We love one and eat the other <--{I threw this one in}

Alright, that's enough of that.  Now that we know the average male college graduate can tell the difference between a cow and a dog, let's discuss the similarities between the two:

• They both have four legs
• They both have two eyes and a nose
• They both can bleed
• They both cry out when in pain
• They both love their kin

In all the ways that matter, dogs and cows {and chickens and lions and squirrels and humans} are exactly the same

So, why do we love dogs SO much, but we eat cows?

I unfortunately don't know the answer to this.  All I know is that it is happening and it NEEDS to stop.

This video aims at drawing attention to the hypocrisies of humans and how we need to stop playing favorites.  Would it be inaccurate for me to equate eating a cow or chicken over a cat or dog to racism?

Why LOVE one , but not the other?

By now we should all know that animals feel pain.  So, why do we still intentionally hurt another living being?  How would you like to be taken from your family and skinned, boiled, or cut up alive?  It's NOT humane, people.

I chose to NOT say this in my youtube video, but I have some very strong feeling about this subject.

There is NOTHING humane about murdering something.  You wouldn't murder your pet, would you?  You probably wouldn't even murder your own cow.  Am I right?  Would you cut off your own bacon from the pig?  Probably not.  But you would pay someone to do it for you?  Think about this.  Really THINK about this.  It's fucking sick.  You are not a kind person if you INTENTIONALLY know about the cruel practices of the meat, dairy, and eggs industries and STILL, despite knowing everything, you STILL eat that flesh, drink that puss filled slosh, you STILL continue to scramble up those eggs with a smile on your face.  That's just not right.  You are a monster.

Do I mean that?  Me, someone who tries to be so nice to others, who always tries to put others before herself, {and who really has way too much faith in humanity} do I really mean to say that people who eat meat, dairy, or eggs are monsters?  Well, yeah..kinda.  Especially if they know exactly what's going on.  Of course we all wanna think that our food animals have nice long lives before they are stripped of their milk, eggs, or flesh but they don't.  And god dammit even if they did why WHY would you want to take something away from them THAT DOESN'T BELONG TO YOU.  This is called speciesism, my friends.

WAKE THE FUCK UP!

Alright, I've got a test to study for so...

Hoppy Halidays Fit Vegans!

It's been super crazy what with the end of the semester and aaaaaaall the gift buying.  Oh, oh so many gifts to buy!  I think I love giving gifts more than I do getting them.  I think I feel just as much anticipation when I give a gift as someone who is opening a gift I got them! I get the warm fuzzies.

I love warm fuzzies.

Christmas 2015 marks my 4th Christmas as a vegan.  It was hard at first.  There was so much pressure from family members to "just try the ham" and "take a day off from the diet."  They didn't understand that this "diet" wasn't a fad diet.  They couldn't understand that I did not want to try the holiday ham and I did not want a bite of grandma's pecan pie, even though it was once my favorite.

Fortunately now, my "diet" has grown on them and instead of trying to force me to put a pad of butter in my mashed potatoes, they commend me for sticking with what I believe in.

In fact, my grandpa surprised me and talked to the chef at the retirement home about making me something vegan!  It was a lovely surprise!  Was the food fantastic?  No. It was actually just okay {it was absolutely drenched in oil, and that's just yucky} but the fact that my grandfather had the chef make me something to eat because he knew I wouldn't be able to eat with them was so selfless and so sweet.  Oh, warm fuzzies.

So, I have ideas for videos that I want to make.  Like, a ton actually.  I think I am going to have to make a plan for myself.  I'm thinking of coming out with two videos a week, but I still need to think of the days.  One will be vegan-themed and the other will be fitness-themed {with possibly a sprinkling of vlogging and other stuff in there, too..}

I actually took my camera along with tripod into the gym with me and filmed a Workout video...but then accidentally subconsciously? deleted it. Oops.  But, I promise, I will be making more!!  Also, Taters requested a Holiday addition of Vegan At...and I let her down and didn't blog nor make a video on it.  Oops, again.  Is it too late?  I mean, Christmas is practically over, but family is still in town I would presume.  Maybe that will be my next video?

Alright, enough chit chat! Go and enjoy the next few hours of Christmas and I will see you all very soon I hope!

These were the least gruesome pics I could find

and I was forever changed.

My advice for anyone struggling with disordered eating is SEEK HELP NOW!  I thought that I wasn't 80lbs and my throat wasn't bleeding so I didn't need help.  I was fine.  But I wasn't and I found help.  If I didn't, though, it would have been bad. Very, very bad.

Say, though, that you feel like there is no one you can talk to; your parents don't get it and you don't wanna go to a therapist.  Fine.  All I ask is that you reach out to someone to ask for help.  Ask me.  Seriously. All I want to do is help.  There is a way out.  There is a way, I promise.

Comment below if you've ever been bullied or if you've ever suffered with disordered eating.  What is your story? Let me know! <3

Hey there Fit Vegans!

Today marked the start of the last weekend of Fall semester.  Say what!?  I feel like it went by so quickly!

I have a history of anxiety, so when crunch-time rolls around, I make sure to dedicate some time to myself to unwind and relax a bit, which usually means working off all that pent-up anxiousness.  And that's just what I did today!  Actually, because I've been so busy I hadn't worked out in THREE WHOLE DAYS!  Ahh, I know!  So, I was way too ready to jump {literally} back into working out.  Here's what I did today when I had a little window between classes and studying to get my sweat on!

Round 1: 40sec Jumping Jacks/Jump Rope/High Knees, 20sec Varying Arm Exercises:

• Push ups
• Dips
• Arm Circles Forward
• Pike Push ups
• Push ups
• Dips
• Pike Push ups
• Arm Circles Backwards
• Push ups
• Dips

Round 2: 40sec Varying Leg Exercises, 20sec Jumping Jacks/Jump Rope/High Knees :

• Lateral Jumps
• Pop Squats
• Right Leg Dead Lift Hops
• Left Leg Dead Lift Hops
• Squat Jumps
• Side Squat Lunge
• Right Leg Down Dog Hops
• Left Leg Down Dog Hops
• Plie Squat Jumps
• Frog Hops

I just ran through those 2 rounds once, but if I had more time I would have loved to do them twice through.  They went really fast!

Alright, I'm gonna go back to studying. Blech.

First, though, a tip that I've learned through the years:  Take breaks when studying.  Trust me, I totally get that we just want to power through and get the studying over with, but how much of that information that you just skimmed over is gonna stick?  What I have learned instead is to take my time and then every hour I take a break.  I get up, grab some water, do a couple burpees and some yoga moves, check my phone {I know, so tranquil}, then get back to studying.

Or, write a blog post :-P

^^DAY 9?!?! But Mags, you've skipped a couple of days!  Ah yes. Indeed, I did. Unfortunately it is unrealistic for me to be coming out with a video every.single.day.
SO
I have a plan:
I will be blogging every day from here on out.  Mostly about things like what I've been eating and what I've been doing for workouts.  And, depending on how creative I'm being lately I will post other fun things as well like Tips/Tricks for staying vegan in a predominantly non-vegan world! {I do have a fun rant coming out for you guys soon so be on the lookout for that!}
WHY
am I doing this?  Well I've had so much difficulty trying to create videos and upload them that it had begun to take up HOURS {like, literally hours, you guys.  We are talking 6-7 hours of editing and trying to upload and re-upload and re-re-upload} of my time that could be spent on homework and other probably far more productive things.

While I really like to create videos-it's fun to see how I can improve, plus it's an AMAZING way to spread the Fit Vegan message, uploading everyday is just not practical right now.
BUT
I do have a workout video for you guys today!  It's not great. Be patient with me, I'm still learning!

Here's the format:
Round 1-50 on, 10 off

• 2 Up, 2 Down Squats
• Front Lunges
• Plie Squats
• Good Mornings
• Side Lunges
• 4 Up, 4 Down Squats

Let me know what you guys think so I can improve the videos in the future!

"The ones who
                  are crazy enough to think
                                                   they can change the world,
                                                                                      are the ones who do."

Seriously.

But I promise it's NOT because I don't want to!!!

First, I recorded a video for the best damn oil-free fries Friday morning, planning to edit and upload that night when I got to my parent's house and GUESS WHAT??!  The internet didn't work.  So that was cool.

That night I planned out a super crazy HIIT workout hoping to get it filmed and uploaded the next morning IF the internet worked.  And oh happy days, the internet was back on that morning. Woo!!  So, I filmed half-way into the HIIT workout when I realized that my tripod could have been in a way better spot for filming in my parent's very cramped bedroom.  So I paused the video and moved the tripod and when I went to comence filming I noticed that I FREAKIN DELETED THE VIDEO!!!  uuuuggghhh.

But all was not lost because I still had another 30 minutes in the workout so I just modified and recorded the last 30 minutes and it was a really good workout!  I was so proud!  {This is when the but comes in..} But, I learned that dropbox wont hold a 30 min video and I was not able to email the file to myself because it was too big AND for some stupid reason, when I tried to trim it on my phone I was told that the file was too big to be trimmed!  What?  Now does that make sense to anyone?!

So, honestly, I just said fuck it and didn't upload a video for a couple days.  Not to mention my car was dying and I had to take it to the shop twice and blah blah whine whine feel bad for me! :/

Anywho, I've been taking some long, deep breaths and listening to some super groovy tunes {which I will link below because I love it THAT much} and I've just created a workout so hopefully-cross your fingers-I can get the ball re-rolling on this vlogmas thang tomorrow.
